Overmolded Shower Heads
Overmolded shower heads are increasingly common. The ability to overmold LSR onto a thermoplastic in a one-step process without the need for primers or adhesives allows for the creation of unique colorful pieces with optimal spray characteristics. With the proper design and LSR material, nozzles with special features, such as the ability to vibrate at specific frequencies in order to prevent mineral and calcium buildup, are made possible.
LSR is a material that can undergo flex and elongation with no permanent deformation. This material has excellent flex fatigue resistance, thus it will stretch or twist under load, but when the load is released it will return to its initial position. Since the material is crosslinked, it will not suffer creep and its high resilience extends over long periods of time. LSR’s characteristics make it the perfect material for slit-valves, allowing them to be designed so that they open under pressure and fully close when the pressure is released.
Liquid Silicone Rubber makes excellent contact when placed against many materials including paper. LSR has improved printer performance greatly; using overmolded silicone rubber rollers to feed and transport paper sheets improves both functionality and accuracy.
As with medical components, high purity, hypoallergenic materials are required for skin-contact applications or for any component that may be exposed to a substance that will later be applied to the skin. Liquid Silicone Rubbers are ideal for caps, seals, valves, wipers, brushes, applicators, or other similar components.

Food grade LSR
provides flexible, non-stick surfaces for silicone baking molds and other cookware. LSR’s ability to adhere to various plastics and metals makes it possible for parts to be designed to combine the rigidity and structural support of a plastic or metal with the beneficial properties of LSR, all in one automated process. Since LSR is a crosslinked material, it can withstand extreme temperatures with no heat aging. This allows it to maintain its mechanical properties over time. Due to the high purity of Liquid Silicone Rubber, there is no threat of this material releasing hazardous chemicals, monomers, plasticizers or promoters at any temperature range, as there are no such chemicals in LSR.
Baby Products and Toys
Liquid Silicone Rubbers are used in medical devices for their high purity and stable hypoallergenic nature. Similarly, high tear LSRs are ideal for silicone baby bottle parts and components that might be bitten or sucked on. Most thermoplastic materials used to produce baby products gain their flex characteristics from hazardous plasticizers, and many times these materials contain substances that leach out of the material over time and may be very harmful. LSR is not only stable and pure, but due to its inorganic backbone, it is not highly susceptible to bacteria, poisoning or mold growth. Some examples of applications for which LSR is a good fit include bottle nipples, teething rings and pacifiers.
Multi-Component Housings and Silicone Vibration Dampers
LSR 2-Shot injection molding and LSR overmolding technology allow for the production of air tight and/or water tight housings. Components that vibrate or require high temperatures such as shavers, blowers, trimmers, or electric motors can benefit greatly from multi-component LSR housings and dampers that incorporate the sealing properties of LSR and a thermoplastic or a metal without the need for additional assembly steps or challenges.
High Transparency Buttons
Liquid Silicone Rubber is naturally translucent and thus allows light to flow through its surface. LSR is the ideal material for silicone rubber buttons not only for its high transparency, but also for its durability, resilience, and its ability to outlast the life of the final component.
