Irrigation and Filtration Components
Irrigation components such as pressurized sprinkler nozzles require seals and pressure membranes that function properly and continuously without deterioration when exposed to all possible environmental conditions. LSR material, unlike many other rubbers, will not severely degrade over time – even when exposed to UV or highly variable temperatures. Similarly, filtration components and seals made out of LSR maintain their high resilience and low compression set, allowing for a very long part life.
Valve and Gauge, Membranes and Seal Rings
Minimizing assembly steps and errors is critical for high-precision gauges wherein the membrane tension directly controls gauge behavior. Even minimal errors in thickness distributions throughout the part or torsions during assembly can lead to incorrect gauge readings. With multi-component molding, precise tolerances and uniform thicknesses throughout the part are possible, thereby eliminating related assembly errors.
Seals, Gaskets and O-Rings
In most industrial applications, parts are subjected to harsh environmental conditions where the life time of a component may depend on its seal or gasket. Low Pressure Exit, Check and One-Way Valves
With its superior flexibility, LSR allows for elongation with no permanent deformation. One-way valves, dual-valves, and exit nozzles are generally designed in such a way that they open when a certain amount of pressure is applied, and they revert to their original sealed position when the pressure is removed. LSR is an ideal material for these applications.
Lighted Panel Buttons
LSR overmolded onto a thermoplastic casing allows for perfectly transparent buttons and/or any degree of semi-transparency with an enormous range or color possibilities. The tactile feel and the amount of force required when pressing a button may be easily altered by modifying part geometries and/or by selecting alternative LSR materials. There is a vast range of LSR materials available, each with slightly different material characteristics, including look and feel.
For complicated assemblies that require the use of a seal, gasket, or fragile rubber component, or for when part performance is critical and errors in assembly can’t be tolerated, LSR overmolding can provide a cost effective option that eliminates assembly challenges and errors. Huge reductions in assembly costs and improved part performance can be made possible with LSR overmolding. LSR can be chemically and mechanically bonded onto thermoplastics with no need for primers. Direct bonding to metals with an integrated adhesive and/or mechanical bonding is also possible, and it creates a strong, lasting bond.
