Over-Molded Shower Heads
Overmolded shower heads are very common today due to the ability of overmolding in a one-step process with out the need of primers or adhesives to create a unique, colorful piece with optimal spray characteristics. With the proper design and LSR material, nozzles may be designed with special characteristics such as to vibrate at specific frequencies preventing mineral and calcium buildup.
Bakeware
Bakeware products made out of LSR will provide flexible non-stick surfaces. Its bonding capabilities with plastics and metals allow parts to be designed with structural supports and reinforcements all in an automated one-shot process. Being a crosslinked material, LSR’s will withstand extreme temperatures with no heat aging—maintaining mechanical properties in time. Due to the high purity of liquid silicone rubbers there is no threat to any release of hazardous chemicals, monomers, plasticizers or promoters at any temperature range because there are none in the material.
Cosmetic Applicators
As with medical components, high purity hypoallergenic materials are required for skin-contact applicators or for any component that may be exposed to any substance that will later be applied to the skin. Liquid silicone rubbers are ideal for caps, seals, valves, wipers, brushes, applicators and similar components.
Dispensers
Bottle dispensers designed with silicone rubber seals and valves will optimize functionality, provide better flow control and prevent material from drying-out on the exit nozzle.
Slit Valves
LSR is a material that undergoes flex and elongation with no permanent deformation. This means that the material will have excellent reflex characteristics; thus, it will stretch or twist under load but when the load is released it will go back to its initial position. Since the material is crosslinked, it will not suffer creep and its high resilience behavior will hold even over extended periods of time. These excellent properties of LSR material allow slit-valves to be designed so that they open under pressure and fully close when the pressure is released
Printer Rollers
Liquid Silicone Rubber has been found to provide very good contact properties against many materials including paper. Great improvements have been made to printers improving functionality and accuracy by using overmolded LSR rollers to feed and transport paper sheets.
Baby Products and Toys
Liquid silicone rubbers are used in medical devices for their high purity and stable hypoallergenic nature. Similarly, high tear LSRs are ideal for baby products that might be bitten or sucked on. Most thermoplastic materials used on baby products gain their flex characteristics from hazardous plasticizers and many times contain substances that diffuse out of the material in time and may be very harmful. LSR is not only stable and pure but due to its inorganic backbone does not lead to bacteria, poisoning or mold growth. Some examples include bottle nipples, teething rings and pacifiers
Multi-Component Housings and Dampers
Housings for most seal tight or water tight applications. Components that vibrate or require high temperatures such as shavers, blowers, trimmers or electric motors may be made by multi-component LSR to incorporate seals and gaskets and vibration dampers without the assembly troubles.
High Transparency Buttons
Liquid Silicone rubber is naturally translucent and thus will provide great illumination through its surface. For lighted buttons it is not only excellent for its high transparency but for its extreme cycle life. In various applications, liquid silicone rubbers have been rated with cycle life of over 4 million.
